Drugs 'charter' for schools
Class of children
Under the charter pupils promise not to bring drugs to school
Schools in Greater Manchester are adopting a charter to try and stamp out drug and alcohol incidents involving pupils.

Under the charter the schools in Tameside have promised to teach pupils about the dangers of drugs.

It also means youngsters are pledging not to take illegal substances onto school premises.

Drugs education officers hope the charter will give pupils a clear message that any kind of drugs incidents in school will not be tolerated.

The officers said the aim was to tackle a range of incidents, from children smoking on the premises, to going to school drunk or high on drugs.

Police liaison officers and Branching Out - the drugs advisory service designed for young people - are also involved in the charter scheme.
