Penalty charge for parking firm
Manchester parking ticket
Ticket to ride... far, far away from Manchester
The controversial private firm in charge of handing out parking tickets in Manchester city centre has been sacked by the council.

Control Plus regularly came under fire for its draconian policies.

On one occasion a bus was given a ticket for waiting at a bus stop and on another it was ordered to send its wardens for retraining after a flood of complaints about their attitude.

Now the council has told Control Plus it has lost its contract.

A third of people who complained about Control Plus to the independent adjudicator had their fines quashed.

The council says it is now time to start afresh with a new firm that will implement fairer policies.

Councillor Jim Battle said Manchester wanted quality services, and when they do not come up to standard, the council would do something about it.

He said Control Plus had implemented changes, but they just weren't good enough.

"When it came to the balance, things had to change and change radically," he said.
