Town considers drinking ban
Drinking alcohol may be banned from public places in a town centre in Greater Manchester.

Police are concerned about the level of alcohol-related crime and violence in Oldham.

The ban would stop drinking in a large part of the town centre, but is mainly aimed at the Yorkshire Street area, where there are a large number of pubs and clubs.

Greater Manchester Police have spoken out about drink-related problems in the town, which include assaults and vandalism.

At the moment many drinkers leave pubs and clubs with bottles and glasses.

If accepted by the council, the ban could be in force by November.
