A prisoner who had been on suicide watch has been found hanged in his cell at Manchester Prison, the prison service has said. Graham Draisley, 36, was discovered hanging in his cell at Strangeways jail just after midnight on Wednesday.
Resuscitation was attempted at the scene and he was taken by ambulance to North Manchester General Hospital where he was confirmed dead.
A Prison Service spokesman said Draisley, from Manchester, had been convicted of five counts of threatening to kill and affray and was awaiting sentence at crown court.
The spokesman said Draisley had been on suicide watch.
"Police, the coroner and the next of kin have all been informed and the Prison Service is to carry out its own investigation," he added.
