A rugby player with Premiership side London Irish was injured when he was hit in the face with a bottle during a brawl outside a south London bar.

Fly-half Ryan Lamb, 23, was treated in hospital following the attack near Gigalum Bar, Cavendish Parade, Clapham.

A 28-year-old man was also hurt during the fight last weekend between the Reading-based players on their end-of-season party and Chelsea football fans.

The Met Police said a man in his 30s was arrested and released on bail.

'Spilled into street'

The players, in fancy dress, were said to have been attacked by Chelsea football supporters - who were celebrating their team winning the Premier League - following an earlier fight at the bar.

A spokesman for Met Police said: "Police were called at approximately 2300 hours on 9 May to reports of a fight in progress at Gigalum Bar, Cavendish Parade, SW4.

"The fight had spilled out into the street outside the venue.

"Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene and found two males, aged 23 years and 28 years, who were victims of an alleged assault.

"Both attended hospital but neither was seriously injured."

A spokeswoman for London Irish, which has its headquarters in Sunbury, Surrey, said: "The incident is currently being investigated so we can't comment any further."
