Volcanic ash cloud - the travel alternatives

Airspace in Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of Northern England is open again, however the situation is ever changing and there is no estimate for a reopening of the skies above Wales and the rest of England.

A new volcanic ash cloud means plans to open swathes of airspace are being significantly revised.

Here are the alternatives to getting away:

In summary, train operators including Eurostar and Virgin Trains are running extra services. Ferry services have limited space and you should check with the operator before you travel.

Most regular services are booked up until the end of the week, but there are additional trains. Eurostar advise that you don't arrive at a station without a reservation.

Brittany Ferries have no space on Spanish sailings until the start of May.

Sailings available from Dieppe, Le Havre, Boulogne and Ostend. Running to time with space reported, including foot passengers on some services.

Transeuropa run a service from Ramsgate to Ostend. Running to time but not accepting foot passengers.

P&O Ferries have limited space but are running to time. Sea France, LD Lines and Norfolkline services are on time, space available.

Virgin have made 4750 extra seats available on additional trains running today. Other trains will run with extra carriages.
