Mayor plugs green London to firms

Analysts say London's green economy could be worth up to �600m a year

London's mayor has travelled to an international summit to promote London's green economy in the hope of tempting firms to invest in the city.

Boris Johnson is attending a climate summit in South Korea to discuss his plans to create a low carbon economy.

These include proposals to make buildings more energy-efficient and building waste and recycling plants.

A study found his plans could create up to 15,000 jobs and contribute £600m a year to London's economy by 2025.

Mr Johnson said he would do everything in his power to "grasp the international opportunities coming from addressing the challenge of climate change."

He added: "I will have the prime opportunity to reinforce the message that London is alive and kicking and is still an unrivalled place to pursue business specifically for 'green-collar' companies."

But critics from the London Green Party have said they are yet to see "some real commitment" from the mayor on the issue.
