The modest east London street where David Beckham once lived

The owners of David Beckham's childhood home in east London are hoping to cash in on "Brand Beckham" and sell the modest house for upwards of �1m.

Agent Colin Evans has listed the three-bedroom terraced house in Leytonstone on a website for �850,000.

But Mr Evans says he is confident that international interest in the star footballer will push up the price.

Mr Evans said there are bids for the Norman Road house, but he is waiting in case Beckham himself wants to buy it.

Mr Evans was researching Leytonstone local heroes for a book that he is planning when he traced 33-year-old Beckham's roots to the house.

He contacted the owners, who decided to sell up.

"It's the Beckham brand isn't it, that is what will do it," Mr Evans said of the asking price - three times what local estate agents say the home is worth.

But Mr Evans said once the LA Galaxy midfielder heard of the sale, he might buy the property himself.

Resident Jeanette Hall said she remembered the family bringing baby David home from nearby Whipps Cross hospital.

"We just remember them as being a nice normal family who used to chat to everyone around here," she said.

Beckham's agents confirmed that the home was where he lived as a small boy before the family moved to Chingford. Young David's career began in earnest when he played for the under-10 side Ridgeway Rovers.
