Ben was stabbed in Holloway on Sunday |
Three men accused of murdering 16-year-old Ben Kinsella in north London have appeared in court. Juress Kika and Michael Alleyne, both 18, and Jade Braithwaite, 19, were remanded in custody at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court. They have been charged with the murder of Ben, who was stabbed in York Way, Holloway, on Sunday. The three men, from Islington, north London, are due to appear at the Old Bailey on 13 October. Ben's mother Deborah, father George and sister Jade sat in court as the teenagers appeared in the dock. The family were kept separate from more than 15 friends and relatives of the three defendants, who filled the public gallery. Ben's sister Brooke Kinsella, who appeared in BBC soap EastEnders and who made several public appeals after his death, was not in court. | Ben Kinsella's sister Jade and mother Deborah were in court |
Ben was the 17th teenager to be killed in London this year. On Tuesday, up to 400 protesters marched in Upper Street, Islington, to the scene of the killing to demand an end to knife crime. Mr Kika and Mr Alleyne were arrested late on Monday night at an address in the Chadwell Heath area of east London, while Mr Braithwaite was arrested in Bethnal Green, also east London, on Tuesday. An 18-year-old man arrested in Islington on Monday has been bailed to return to a London police station in mid-August pending further inquiries. No applications for bail were made on behalf of any of the three defendants. The judge ruled their addresses should not be released because of fears of reprisal attacks against their families.
