Hundreds of mourners have attended the funeral of a boy who died in an attack at a bakery a day after he turned 16.

Jimmy Mizen bled to death on 10 May after suffering a neck injury in the attack at Three Cooks bakery in Lee, south-east London, 500m from his home.

The hearse passed the bakery, with his parents following behind. His brothers led the procession carrying a picture of the altar boy.

Jake Fahri, 19, from Lee, has been charged with Jimmy's murder.

School ties

Jimmy's eight-year-old brother, George, who carried the picture, had "Jimbo" written on his arm.

A T-shirt was wrapped over the coffin with the words "Jimmy M Team" written on it.

Jimmy's friends from his school in Eltham knotted their school ties around a makeshift shrine while family members left flower tributes and balloons at the spot.

Five of Jimmy's brothers carried the coffin into the Our Lady of Lourdes church in Lee. Jimmy's friends formed a guard of honour.

Family and friends had said the funeral should be a celebration of Jimmy's life and they wore brightly-coloured clothes and listened to his favourite songs.

During the service Jimmy's mother, Margaret Mizen, 55, said: "I can't believe we are here now. He really was a beautiful son."

Her husband Barry, 56, said Jimmy was "a lovely boy" who had his mother's smile.

"I have some really good memories and I will keep them always," he said.

Jimmy's six brothers each made a personal tribute to him during the service.

A tribute from the family on the order of service read: "God sent them Jimmy with a mission in mind to show the world love and leave all the anger behind.

"With a smile so special, so gentle, so kind, an angel of immaculate character beautiful inside.

"Jimmy taught us all to let anger and hate go, look deep in your heart and the love will flow.

"Now look up at heaven, at the sky at night, you will see a star shining ever so bright, that is Jimmy... our gentle giant."

The service was followed by a private burial at nearby Grove Park Cemetery.
