Chip row murder jurors sent home

Richard Whelan was stabbed through the heart
Jurors trying a man charged with murdering a bus passenger after a row over throwing chips have been sent home after the first day of deliberations.

Anthony Joseph, 22, is accused of stabbing Richard Whelan, 28, after throwing chips at women on a bus in Holloway Road, north London, in 2005.

Mr Whelan intervened when Mr Joseph began throwing chips at his partner Kerry Barker, 38, the Old Bailey heard.

Mr Joseph, of Islington, north London, denies murder.

The court heard Mr Whelan was stabbed through the heart and had six other stab wounds.
