Restaurant Gordon Ramsay has topped the category since 2000

Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea, west London, was named the "top gastronomic experience" in Harden's London Restaurants Guide 2008.

However, for the first time in seven years it was knocked off the top spot as highest overall rated restaurant and highest-rated destination for food.

The rankings were based on feedback from more than 8,000 restaurant-goers.

Television ventures

It is the first time since 2000 that Restaurant Gordon Ramsay has not topped the guide's categories for top gastronomic experience, highest food rating and highest overall rating - taking second place for the latter two.

The celebrity chef's flagship restaurant has held its top gastronomic experience title in the Harden's guides for the past 11 years.

The Harden's guide found the average price for dinner for one in the capital is �38.78.

Prices have risen on average by 3% over the past year, although in the 20 most expensive places the year-on-year increase was 4.4%.
