An area the size of Hyde Park has now been acquired for 2012 |
The demolition of the site for the 2012 Olympic Park can now begin after it was revealed that all the land needed for the site has been obtained. The London Development Agency (LDA) has acquired an area the size of Hyde Park in three years.
The process has involved relocating 208 businesses, 425 residents, 35 traveller families, and 64 allotment holders.
The LDA was congratulated by London's Mayor Ken Livingstone for completing the acquisition "on time and budget".
"This is a truly fantastic achievement," Mr Livingstone said.
"With the world watching and many cynics predicting failure and that the 2012 Games would be jeopardized, the London Development Agency worked professionally and steadily to assemble the land needed for the 2012 Games on time and budget."
Manny Lewis, chief executive of the LDA, said: "The land assembly is the foundation of changing the east end and it marks a huge Olympic milestone."
