Peace prayers at football stadium
A mother whose son was stabbed to death in London was to be among a group of Christians at a football ground praying for an end to gun and knife crime.

Nancy Odunewu was due to speak at the Global Day of Prayer event at West Ham United football stadium in Upton Park, east London, on Sunday.

Her son Emmanuel, 19, was killed in Lewisham last November.

Organisers said up to 25,000 people were expected at the event, committed to bringing an end to violence.

Pain and loss

It comes after a string of high-profile stabbing and shootings in London since the start of the year.

The stadium is close to where Adam Regis, the 15-year-old nephew of Olympic sprinter John Regis, was stabbed to death in March.

Organisers said representatives from majority black churches as well as Anglican and Catholic groups were due to attend.

Event spokesman, Pastor Ade Omooba said: "Nancy Odunewu will share not only her pain and loss, but also her hope that through prayer, this violence will end."
