Games clear up beats green target
Olympic Park site in Stratford
The Olympic Park site is expected to be cleared by 2008
More than 95% of the demolition material cleared from the Olympic Park site has been recycled, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) said.

The ODA said it has "beaten" its target to recycle 90% of the material and over 10,400 tonnes of it will be put to use.

The second phase of the clearing at the site in east London begins in July.

Officials said most of the site will be cleared before August 2008. The remaining refuse, mainly asbestos, has been safely disposed of, the ODA said.

'Greenest Games'

More than 9,823 tonnes of building material following demolition on Eton Manor and Clays Lane, which began last November, will be reused for building work at the Park site while another 638 tonnes is being used off site.

ODA Chief Executive David Higgins said: "We want London 2012 to be the greenest Games in modern times and have set ourselves tough targets to recycle or reuse materials wherever possible.

"These figures show we are not only meeting our commitments, we are beating them," he added.

In the second phase of the demolition 256 buildings, mostly industrial constructions, will be razed to the ground.
