London won the right to stage the 2012 Olympics last year |
Almost two-thirds of Londoners think as tax-payers they will end up footing the bill for the 2012 Olympics going over budget, according to a BBC London poll. Mayor Ken Livingstone said the Games would cost people living in London 38p a week but the research showed 79% believe it will cost them more.
Of those questioned 65% said they thought Londoners will end up paying for any additional costs.
Despite this 69% supported London hosting the Games.
Just over 1,000 people were questioned last month for the survey carried out by Mori.
Last month Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell announced that the cost of the Games will rise by 900m to 3.3bn.
But London mayor Ken Livingstone called it a "mistake" to give a figure before the budget is published next spring.
