Endangered species items seized
The 'medicines' seized by police
The raid was part of a larger initiative called Operation Charm
Products thought to be made from endangered species including tigers, seahorses and monkeys, have been seized during police raids.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Wildlife Crime Unit, searched two traditional Chinese Medicine shops in Lewisham and Eltham, south-east London.

They seized about 270 suspect products during the search.

One man was arrested on suspicion of having products containing endangered species and later released on bail.

The raid was part of an initiative against the illegal trade in endangered species in London called Operation Charm, which has been in operation since 1995.

Andy Fisher, Head of the force's Wildlife Crime Unit, said: "Most Chinese Medicines are not made from endangered species and can be sold legally.

"However, a small number of people continue to trade in these products and Operation Charm will continue to work to end this illegal activity."

The maximum penalty for trading in products containing endangered species is five years imprisonment, a 5,000 fine or both.
