Drivers abusing the disabled badge system could still be clamped

Camden's new Conservative and Lib Dem-run council believes the unpopular penalties hamper the traffic flow.

However drivers abusing the disabled badge system and those persistently failing to pay parking fines could still find their vehicles clamped.

Camden Council said a final decision on the future of clamping will take place at a cabinet meeting on 5 July.

A council spokesman said: "The report will recommend clamping is ended except for a couple exceptional circumstances - for people who commit blue badge (disabled permit) fraud and where someone has persistently failed to pay a fine."

Labour council members warned the move would mean a significant loss of revenue.

Islington became the first council to abolish clamping last year following complaints from drivers.
