Mayor questioned by London women
Up to 3,000 woman are at a conference looking at the issues which affect their daily lives in London.

The Capitalwoman conference, held in Westminster, has grown in recent years with the sixth event attracting ten times more attendees than the first.

Organisers say the response shows how interested the female population is in the way London is run.

Women will get the chance to question London's mayor Ken Livingstone on subjects like childcare and safety.

Annie Marjam, the mayor's policy advisor on women's issues, said: "We've done a lot of work around the issue of women's safety because women told us that was one thing they wanted addressing - hence the numbers of bobbies on the beat and things we've done about travel at night.

"I think the women of London have shown they appreciate having this day where they can interact with the mayor."

A number of female MPs, academics, businesswomen and policy makers will speak at the event.
