A City banker has filed a claim for unfair dismissal against one of Britain's biggest banks.

Claire Bright claims she was unfairly sacked, sexually discriminated against and victimised by HBOS, where she earned about 600,000.

Both parties met at an employment tribunal in Stratford, east London, to decide preliminary issues.

HBOS said an internal inquiry found Ms Bright's allegations to be "unfounded". Ms Bright's solicitor did not comment.

She was employed as head of asset and liability management in HBOS's treasury department.

A spokesman for HBOS said: "Claire Bright has filed a claim with the tribunal and we will vigorously defend this case if it comes to the tribunal.

"We have a rigorous and comprehensive grievance procedure at HBOS.

"Claire Bright's allegations went through that grievance procedure and her allegations were proved to be unfounded."

If the case goes to a full tribunal hearing it is expected to take place in the autumn and could last several weeks.
