Union bosses call off Tube strike

The strike had threatened to close much of the Tube
Tube strike action planned for next Tuesday has been called off following progress in negotiations between union officials and London Underground (LU).

The action was suspended after the Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) union announced LU had "agreed not to impose a range of new procedures".

The move comes after another union Aslef said it too was pulling out of the 21 February strike.

However both unions said a co-ordinated strike on 2 March remained in place.

RMT general secretary Bob Crow said LU "has confirmed that it will not impose a range of new procedures, and we have agreed a way forward to deal with the issues involved".

The dispute covers a range of staffing issues from LU's policy on signals passed at danger (Spads), to health and safety, alleged harassment and bargaining arrangements.

An LU spokesman said it hoped to resolve the outstanding issues through continued negotiations.
