The tour shows the centre to those who might never see one |
A virtual tour of a centre for the homeless has been created online to highlight the problem. Visitors to the Salvation Army website will be able to get a flavour of what life is like at the Edward Alsop Court, in Westminster, central London.
The tour's creation marks Homelessness Sunday - which is focussing on prevention of homelessness this year.
The Salvation Army says centres like the one featured are key to helping people learn to live independently.
Major Malcolm Walters, the manger of Edward Alsop Court, leads the tour, taking visitors through the lounge and restaurant before seeing inside one of the residents rooms.
The Salvation Army's Major Ray Irving said: "The majority of people will hopefully not need to be accommodated in a Salvation Army homeless centre, but may have fixed ideas about what they are really like.
"We run 50 residential centres for homeless people in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland and our centres are vibrant, modern and inviting places where homeless people not only find accommodation but also enjoy life in community and learn skills to help them in the future.
"Some people may have an old fashioned idea of Salvation Army centres and what happens inside and our 'virtual tour' may help to dispel some of those myths."
