Children took the pictures after workshops |
Pictures taken by gypsy and traveller children living within areas due for major regeneration are to be displayed in a photography exhibition. The images will feature caravan sites in east London where the youngsters and their families have been living for many years.
The London Gypsy and Traveller Unit, in Hackney, has supported the project.
The exhibition takes place at the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, east London, from 1 July to 31 October.
The children used basic cameras to take the pictures, after participating in photography workshops on the caravan sites in Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets.
All three areas will be affected by regeneration in the area as well as construction work for the Olympics, if London wins its 2012 bid.
The workshops were run by artists and photographers, Bobby Lloyd and Caroline Christie, from On Site Arts, a non-profit arts organisation working with hard to reach communities in east London.
The London Gypsy and Traveller Unit works on sites and runs youth groups for travellers and gypsies in east London.
