Arsenal is to unveil a large mural depicting the north London football club's 93-year history.

The 52-metre Final Salute mural at Arsenal Tube station was designed by a cross-section of local residents.

Arsenal captain Thierry Henry said: "It's wonderful that the Arsenal community has come together to depict Highbury's history."

The club leaves Highbury after nearly 100 years at the end of the season, for its new ground, Ashburton Grove.

Highbury stadium will be converted into homes.

Arsenal held a week of art workshops inviting contributions from schoolchildren, disabled supporters, fans and members of the resident bowls club.

Expert artistic guidance was provided by the Greenwich Mural Workshop and Platform for Art, London Underground's public art programme.

"It's very fitting that the only football club to have a Tube station named after it should display such a wonderful interpretation of the club's history here," said Henry.
