One in five Londoners would consider installing wind turbines or solar panels in their homes if they were easier to install, a report says. The London Assembly report said out of 600 households surveyed, 91% stated that they thought renewable energy is a good idea.
But many Londoners said bureaucracy stopped them installing the systems.
People putting up a micro wind turbine could save �440 a year on power bills, according the assembly's report.
Those with a solar water heating system could save another 50% on water heating bills.

Darren Johnson, chairman of the London Assembly's environment committee, said: "We have to save London for our future generations and every one of us has a responsibility to ensure this happens.
"Householders produce half of London's carbon dioxide (CO2) which is a shocking statistic."
Besides overcoming bureaucracy and legal difficulties other barriers experienced by Londoners included lack of suitable information and problems with finding installers.
The committee recommended the use of one-stop shops to support homeowners through the installation process.
In another study released by British Gas on Thursday, experts said homeowners could generate their own electricity with a mini version of the turbines used on windfarms.
This could cut electricity bills by up to one third and reduce CO2 emissions by half a tonne each year.
The device will be tested on properties in Scotland and the South West later this year and if successful will be rolled out nationally.
