Youngsters given cricketing treat
Lord's cricket ground
The Met approached Lord's for the tickets
About 80 youngsters from a deprived part of London will get the chance to watch an international cricket match at Lord's this week.

The Metropolitan Police will award the passes to pupils from Tower Hamlets who are passionate about cricket or attend after-school clubs.

Lord's donated the tickets after the Met's community and partnership chief approached the venue.

The England versus Bangladesh match takes place on Thursday and Friday.

Superintendent Dal Babu, head of community and partnership, said the event would help police to engage with young people.

He said: "Many youngsters from Tower Hamlets area come from deprived backgrounds where opportunities are limited.

"This is a very generous gift from Lord's to the youngsters of Tower Hamlets; I know they have put a smile on many faces.

"Hopefully, this opportunity will spur any young budding cricket players in the community to take up the sport."

Supt Babu said he hoped to organise coaching and tours for youngsters in the future.
