Heathrow workers in second strike
Picket line at Heathrow
Employers say T5 builders are some of the highest paid in the industry
Workers building a 4bn terminal at Heathrow Airport are staging a second 24-hour strike in a dispute over pay.

About 1,000 union members from a 6,000-strong workforce are said to have joined picket lines at dawn, following on from Friday's walk-out.

They want an extra 1 an hour in their bonus schemes but contractors Laing O'Rourke are offering 22p.

The company earlier said they were disappointed, describing T5 workers as among the highest paid in the industry.

Further threats

Employers Laing O'Rourke and Amec have been in talks with unions, with a further meeting planned for Tuesday.

But if the dispute is not resolved, there are further threats of industrial action on 20 and 23 January.

The last review of bonus pay rates took place three years ago.

Terminal 5 (T5) is being built to the west of Heathrow Airport and is due to be completed in 2008.
