Many Londoners would like to see more late running Tube trains |
Plans to run Tube trains later on Fridays and Saturdays have been changed to try to ease weekend workers' fears. London Underground wanted to run trains an hour later on Fridays and Saturdays.
But London Underground's proposals to then start trains an hour later on the weekends raised fears among shift workers and those catching flights.
It proposes to run trains 30 minutes later on Friday and Saturday nights, start them an hour later on Saturday and keep the same Sunday service.
One of London Underground's directors, Richard Parry, said: "The original consultation showed that most Tube users and Londoners would welcome a later weekend Tube.
Right balance
"It also showed some concern for those who use the Tube early at the weekends, especially on Sundays.
"We need to strike the right balance between late evening and early morning Tube users."
He said the new proposals offered a lot of the benefits of the first, while "adversely affecting" fewer people.
The first consultation attracted 54,000 responses - most of which favoured a later Tube service on weekend nights.
This proposal would see last trains leaving central London at 0100 GMT on Fridays and Saturdays.
Trains would leave an hour later on Saturday mornings with the first arriving in central London at about 0700 GMT.
The consultation will continue until 12 December.
