Chinese delegates have met with officials to discuss plans to regenerate east London through the 2012 Olympic Games.

The official business delegation, which is in the UK for the Chinese president's state visit, went to the Olympic Park site in Stratford.

Beijing, China's capital, will host the 2008 Games.

London organising committee chief Mike Powers said there were similarities in London and Beijing's plans.

"London and Beijing will both leave strong environmental, urban and sporting legacies for their cities and for the Olympic Movement," Mr Powers said.

Prime Minister Tony Blair, who will be meeting the Chinese president later this week, said: "In 2008, Beijing will hand the baton to London for the Olympic Games.

"This will create a bond between the two Olympic cities and our two countries, and bring benefits for generations to come."
