Mayor to stand for two more terms
Ken Livingstone, London mayor
The Mayor is thought to want a key role in Olympic planning
London's mayor Ken Livingstone will stand for election at least another two times, his office has confirmed.

It is thought the Mayor wants to serve the term leading up to London hosting the Olympic Games, from 2008, so he can play a key role in its development.

The following term, would begin just weeks before the Games start in 2012.

His office said it is "not incorrect" that the mayor plans to stand both times, adding: "It is down to the voters if they want him in power."

If elected on both occasions, Mr Livingstone would turn 71 the year his fourth term ended.

Currently there is no limit on the number of terms London's mayor can serve.
