'Londoners tend to be ahead of the pack' when it comes to technology
Mobile phone reception is worse in London than anywhere else in the UK, research suggests.

Of those questioned, 52% said they had experienced difficulties connecting to their mobile phone network - 10% higher than the national average.

Londoners were also found to be the biggest users of text messages, mobile e-mail and video downloading.

Agilent Technologies, which carried out the survey, said more attention must be paid to reception quality in London.

Fast-paced lifestyle

Tom White, of mobile phone technology firm Agilent, said: "The data clearly shows that respondents have experienced more connectivity difficulties in London than elsewhere in the country.

"Network operators are not paying enough attention to reception quality in the London region and could be missing out on revenues from voice calls."

Speaking to 1,019 adults from across the UK, researchers found that in London, 77% regularly sent text messages, 25% used picture messaging and 16% sent e-mails from their mobiles.

Mr White said: "Londoners tend to be ahead of the pack in terms of using the data-rich functionality available on their mobile phones.

"This may be due to the fast-paced lifestyle that we normally associate with big cities."
