Speed dating marks art opening
Chelsea College of Art and Design next to Tate Britain
Spotlights will link the two buildings on Friday
Speed dating and mobile DJs playing from shopping trolleys are among events being used to mark the reopening of a 30m art college.

Chelsea College of Art and Design has opened a campus next door to Tate Britain in Millbank.

To celebrate the event on Friday there will be singing and drumming workshops and a barrel organ musician will be playing in medieval costume.

A college spokeswoman said they wanted to "challenge accepted ideas".

"Chelsea's move places our staff and students next to the great names in Tate Britain and gives us a real place on London's creative map," said Sir Michael Bichard, Rector of University of the Arts London.

Spotlights will link the two buildings and students will form a human wall around the Tate bar.

Visitors to the event, which starts at 1900 GMT, will be able to take part in speed dating.

"It would be good to hold such an event in an art gallery where people who enjoy art can get together," said the spokeswoman.

Student Eva Sykes said: "Chelsea College has always stood for challenging accepted idea and pushing new agendas.

"This has been a fantastic opportunity to work with one of the most important art establishments in the country and produce something new and exciting that Londoners can experience for themselves."
