A plan to run London Underground services for an extra hour on Friday and Saturday nights will be put to Londoners, the Mayor has said. The last Tube would run at 1.30am, but would not start running until an hour later the next day to allow time for maintenance work.
Transport for London will consult Tube users, businesses and workers about the plans over the coming months.
If approved, services would be extended by the end of 2006.
An estimated 140,000 passengers would use later-running Tubes, a survey has found.
The survey published in the Mayor's newsletter, The Londoner, also found 55,000 people use the Tube in the first hour of the weekend service. More than half of those are travelling to and from work.
Morning services on Saturdays start at 0530 GMT and at about 0700 GMT on Sundays.
Mayor of London Ken Livingstone said: "We want Londoners to be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of running the Tube later at the weekend and we want to hear their views before a final decision is made."
