The alliance wants a ban on 4x4 advertising in the media |
Environmentalists calling for 4x4 vehicles to be banned from urban areas are targeting so-called Chelsea tractors in a London day of protest. Members of the Alliance Against Urban 4x4s will slip tickets resembling parking fines under the windscreens of their targets.
Alliance spokesman Hayley Rolfe said the vehicles were "dangerous weapons".
Campaigners, including former deputy mayor Jenny Jones, hope to make driving them "socially unacceptable".
Alliance spokeswoman Hayley Rolfe said: "Too many people are driving a dangerous weapon through our crowded streets because they regard it as a fashion accessory.
"Our aim is to make driving these things socially unacceptable," she said.
The alliance wants increased congestion charges and road taxes for 4x4 owners and a ban on advertising the vehicles in mainstream media.
