David Morley died from multiple injuries

The 37-year-old, from Chiswick, west London, died on Saturday after he and a friend were badly beaten near London's Hungerford Bridge on the South Bank.

Police are treating his murder as homophobic. All six people were arrested in the south London area.

Mr Morley, who was gay, worked at the Admiral Duncan pub in 1999 when a nail bomb killed three and injured 73.

When he was attacked at 0300 GMT last weekend he suffered bruises, a ruptured spleen and fractured ribs.

Friend injured

A post-mortem examination showed he died from multiple injuries - he had suffered 40 distinct bruises - to his head and body.

He had been sitting on a bench by the river for three hours, chatting to a friend he had met that night.

His 29-year-old friend was also injured, but survived and is now out of hospital.

Four other people were assaulted on the South Bank on the same night as Mr Morley's murder.

A 35-year-old man was hit over the head with a bottle in Jubilee Gardens and two men suffered minor injuries in an attack near Hungerford Bridge.

A witnesses also claims to have seen a woman being punched in the face nearby.

A candlelit march for Mr Morley from the Admiral Duncan to the South Bank is being organised for Friday 5 November.
