A new disabled parking badge is being introduced to vex thieves in one south London borough. Vehicle-specific parking permits for disabled drivers which will not be of use to anyone else, have been created for use in Lambeth.
The council says some disabled drivers end up with parking fines as the fear their blue or orange badge could be stolen stops them from displaying it.
The badges can only be used in disabled bays in Lambeth.
Lambeth councillor Roger Giess said: "This is a new initiative for our area and will help to reduce crime against some of Lambeth's most vulnerable people.
"Although the new scheme will of course not solve every problem of disabled badge theft, I believe this will go a long way to giving vulnerable people more peace of mind.
Disabled people need to apply for the permit from the council.
