An England football shirt stained with Paul Gascoigne's tears has sold for almost �30,000 at auction. The number 19 shirt, signed by his England team mates, was bought by a private buyer at Christie's in South Kensington, London, on Tuesday.
Gazza used the shirt to dry his eyes after receiving a yellow card during the 1990 World Cup semi-final in Italy.
He broke down after realising that the booking would rule him out of the final if England beat Germany.
The white shirt, which was part of a collection of 450 items of football memorabilia, was sold for �28,680.
A shirt worn by football legend Pele when Brazil won the 1958 World Cup final was sold to a private phone bidder for �70,505.
Other items in the collection included two FA Cup winners medals from Everton's 1906 victory.
One of the 15ct gold medals awarded to goalkeeper William Scott sold for �4,580 while the other, belonging to England international Jack Sharp, went for �5,377.
