CCTV 'must cover Tube stations'
Tube
About 95% of Tube stations have CCTV
Every Tube station must be covered by CCTV cameras to guard against terror attacks, a former Metropolitan Police Commissioner has said.

Lord Imbert told the House of Lords he was concerned that 5% of London Underground (LU) stations were without the security measure.

The debate comes after the Madrid bombings which killed more than 200.

The government has given the British Transport Police (BTP) 2.3m for anti-terrorism measures in 2003-4.

Lord Imbert said: "However much it costs, every effort must be made to provide full coverage by CCTV of every Underground, and indeed overground station, in the country."

For the government, Lord Davies of Oldham said existing CCTV cameras were a "very important defence".

He added: "We will be looking at the question of the other 5%.

"Closed circuit television clearly plays a very important role in our defence, if there is any terrorist activity."
