A team of surfers is attempting to swim in relay across the English Channel to raise money for a mental health charity. Each of the 10 members of the London Surf Club taking part, will swim about a mile before handing over to the next person.
It is estimated the 35 mile swim will take about 16 hours and all money raised will be donated to MIND, the mental health charity.
Vince Burke, who organised the event, said: "We thought this would be a bit of an adventure as well as for a good cause.
"Most of us are better at standing up on waves than swimming through them. Unfortunately we had to leave our boards behind for this."
The team, made up of eight men and two women, is supported by the boat Seafarer.
They were due to set off from Shakespeare's beach near Dover Harbour at 0330 BST.
