Pickpocket steals from minister
Charles Clarke
Mr Clarke is MP for Norwich South
A woman stole 100 from an unsuspecting cabinet minister on board a train from London to Norwich.

The pickpocket is believed to have removed the money from Education Secretary Charles Clarke's wallet as she sat next to him in the first-class carriage.

She put the wallet back and got off the train at Ipswich before Mr Clarke knew the money was gone.

British Transport Police are investigating the theft, which took place between Colchester and Ipswich.

A spokesman for Mr Clarke refused to say exactly when it took place in case it affected the police inquiry, but said it happened "recently".

Mr Clarke, a former crime minister, told The People: "I had money stolen from my wallet on my way to Norwich.

"It was only money. No credit cards or other items were taken."

He added: "The police have handled this very well and I am grateful for the work they are continuing to do."
