Jagger to stand by jailed nephew
Mick Jagger
Mick Jagger said the family will continue to be very supportive
Rolling Stone frontman Sir Mick Jagger has said he will stand by his nephew who was jailed for 12 months on Friday for burglary.

John Jagger, of Rectory Road, Clapham, south London, admitted at Wood Green Crown Court breaking into a woman's home on 29 August last year.

The court heard Rachel Cooper was downstairs watching television with her partner when the 24-year-old forced a skylight to get into the house in Hornsey, north London.

Recorder Judith Parker QC rejected pleas for a non-custodial sentence so Jagger could complete a drug treatment programme.

She said: "It must have been terrifying for this householder to discover what had happened and worry about what might have happened if she had come face to face with you.

'Supportive towards him'

"Her sense of intrusion, her sense of fear and personal defilement must have been intense.

"For these reasons, I have no alternative but to pass a custodial sentence to mark the seriousness of the offence and as a deterrent to others."

After the sentence, Sir Mick's publicist released a statement saying: "John has been very courageous in facing up to his personal problems and this is a real setback to his recovery.

"The whole family will continue to be very supportive towards him."

When officers investigated the break-in at Ms Cooper's home they discovered a fingerprint on the skylight sill.

It was checked and matched with Jagger who was arrested in January.

None of the stolen items have been recovered.
