London gets 2.5m regeneration grants
English Heritage in London
English Heritage has given 2.5m to London
Rundown boroughs in London have been awarded a total of 2.5m in English Heritage grants to help fund regeneration projects.

Barnet, Camden, Islington, Lambeth, Haringey, Havering and Newham will get the Heritage Economic Regeneration Scheme cash which concentrates on boosting business by revamping historic high streets, repairing shop fronts and roofs.

Help with building repairs strengthens local employment, adapts historic buildings for residential use and boosts confidence in the local business community, English Heritage said.

Philip Davies, Regional Director for English Heritage, added: "People in London value their historic environment as it creates a sense of place and belonging and gives them pride in their local areas.

"By funding the repair and improvement of high street shops and the refurbishment of derelict buildings into new homes and businesses, we can break the spiral of decline.

"Even small grants can make a difference, tipping the balance in favour of employment, new homes and investment."
