Line opens after crossing crash

Crash scene
No-one was injured in the crash

Road and Rail services in a part of Lincolnshire are returning to normal after a passenger train hit a level crossing barrier.

The 1537 service from Newark Northgate to Peterborough, operated by East Midlands Trains, hit barriers at the Kirkby Green crossing near Scopwick.

No-one was hurt in the incident, which happened on Wednesday afternoon.

It took almost two hours to get passengers off the train and the line was closed for some time.

Investigation

Eyewitness Ann Watt, who lives near the crossing, told the BBC she heard a loud noise when the single-carriage train hit the barrier.

"All of a sudden a piece of crossing barrier flew across the road so I looked over at the train and I saw a train, like, halfway across the road.

"It had already gone through one of the gates," she said.

An investigation into the cause of the collision is now under way.
