The London Eye-style ride planned for City Square hit delivery problems last week, but organisers have found an alternative ferris wheel attraction.

Business leaders hope the new wheel will draw crowds during the festive shopping season.

The ride will replace an ice rink which was not brought back to Lincoln because of rising costs.

Matt Corrigan, chief executive of the city's Business Improvement Group, said Christmas was a vital time for the city centre.

He said: "It's been a long route to get one but we're really pleased that we've got a wheel to kick-off our Christmas season.

"It's great in terms of atmosphere and attracting people in but it's also important commercially and it's important that we work with the traders to bring people in and that's the intention of the wheel and our investment."

The wheel is expected to be in place for Thursday's Christmas lights switch-on and until the final day of the city's Christmas market on 9 December.
