Central Trains services have been delayed after a freight train derailed near Lincoln Central Station. The train was about to cross the High Street when the derailment happened, but no one was injured, British Transport Police said.
The accident on Wednesday was expected to cause disruption on services between Peterborough and Doncaster for most of the day.
Delays were expected on Central Trains' Cleethorpes-to-Nottingham route.
A Network Rail spokesman said pedestrian and road traffic in the area was not affected.
The spokesman said: "A freight train became stranded while shunting at low speed into the sidings at Lincoln station."
Central Trains and Northern Rail, which also runs services in the region, were supplying replacement buses for passengers.
