A rail firm is spending 20m to upgrade its trains that run between London, Yorkshire and the East Midlands. GNER said two high-speed diesel trains will be given a major makeover under plans to introduce 12 extra weekday services from May.
A spokesman said the trains will get new interiors and engines.
The extra services announced last month will run between Leeds and London, with some calling at Doncaster, Newark, Grantham, Peterborough and Stevenage.
The firm said it meant services would increase from every hour to every half-an-hour between Leeds and London starting in May.
The news comes a month after the company said it would not be competing to run the East Coast Mainline franchise when it comes to an end next year.
In December, the government advised GNER to pull out of the latest round of bidding after financial problems at its parent company Sea Containers were revealed.
Richard McClean, GNER operations director, said: "These trains will get new interiors and new engines by March 2009."
The trains will also have wireless internet installed before starting service in May.
