Louth has been badly hit by flooding |
A young boy has been rescued from a swollen river in Louth in Lincolnshire. People passing by pulled the nine-year-old from the River Lud on Monday after hearing his screams.
A man walking on the bridge grabbed him but he slipped from his grasp. Another man got into the water and caught him before others then lifted him out.
One of them, Howard Barraclough, said it was a miracle the boy was saved and that one of the men trying to rescue him was nearly dragged under the water.
"The man who was holding onto him was nearly under the bridge himself and the boy was under the bridge, trying to pull him back, they were nearly both going under," he said.
Police in the town said there had been reports of children playing in deep water and urged everyone to keep away from flooded areas.
