A week celebrating the historic connections between Lincolnshire and the USA is being made an annual event. A pilot Magna Carta USA week in Lincolnshire last June was so successful the event is to take place each year starting in June 2006.
Lincoln Cathedral owns one of only four documents still in existence from the Magna Carta - which dates back to 1215.
Events have been planned including a lecture on how the Magna Carta has affected black civil rights in the USA.
The Magna Carta document owned by Lincoln Cathedral is currently on display in Lincoln Castle.
Many of the first Pilgrim settlers in the USA came from Lincolnshire, including William Blackstone, from Horncastle, the first white inhabitant of Shawmut, the peninsular on which the new Boston was founded.
