Man helped inmate escape prison
A civilian worker at an open prison in Lincolnshire who admitted helping a prisoner escape from custody has been warned he could face jail himself.

Francis Cooper, 59, was an instructor at HMP North Sea Camp at the time of the escape on 18 September 2003.

He pleaded guilty at Lincoln Crown Court to aiding a prisoner to escape, but denied raping the same inmate.

Cooper, from Fishtoft, Lincs, admitted driving the inmate, who cannot be named, home from the Category D jail.

A High Court judge entered a not guilty verdict on the rape charge after the prosecution decided not to pursue the allegation.

A charge of indecent assault was also ordered to lie on the file after it was decided a trial would not be in the public interest.

Adjourning sentencing, Mr Justice Gibbs granted Cooper bail, but said all options, including custody, would be considered.
