A Lincolnshire woman is starting a skin cancer awareness campaign after her husband and her best friend died of the disease within weeks of each other. Helen Curtis from Grantham wants people to be more aware of the dangers of exposure to the sun and to understand that skin cancer can be a killer.
Her 42-year-old husband Chris died in March and her bridesmaid Sarah Coupland, 34, died in February.
Mrs Curtis said her husband died of a very aggressive form of cancer.
Charity planned
She said: "You always think it happens to somebody else.
"Normally it does but obviously as soon as it happens to you it really hits home.
"I think when you hear of skin cancer, it's one of the cancers you can see, so there's the assumption that you cut it out and then everything will be okay."
Mrs Curtis, who has three teenaged children, says she also plans to write a book about her husband and his illness and to set up a charity in his name.
